TwunLog – A Twitter Based Running Log
If you’ve been tweeting your run workouts, like I have, you may have discovered TwunLog . I actually didn’t discover the site until reviewing mentions on my @advenchirp account. Within the mention was a direct link to a page dedicated to me: http://twunlog.com/advenchirp
TwunLog monitors tweets for key phrases, extracting the mileage and plotting workouts on a dedicated page per user. Pretty smooth!
My purpose for tweeting workout data wasn’t too different than what TwunLog is doing–to keep a log of my workout. I feed the tweets into this blog and can then reference them for weekly totals. TwunLog’s ability to extract mileage values and add them up is another dimension though.
On reviewing the stats that they have posted for me, I realized that the key phrase has to be exact – “# mile run”. For example my post with “18mile run” did not get recognized, but “3 mile run” did. “6 mile jungle run” was also overlooked. Now that I know the phase needs to be exact, I’ll start standardizing the posts.
With so many ways to log data, I’m not sure how useful TwunLog will be for me. I’m going to watch it for a while though and see if it adds some value.
I’ve been using Garmin Connect since I started training with the Garmin Forerunner 310xt. In addition to plotting distance, it has the added benefits of mapping, heart rate, altitude and some planning tools that I haven’t yet used.
So clearly Garmin Connect is a more robust tool, but perhaps TwunLog provides a light, quick look at mileage. To be seen…
