My First 24 Hour Adventure Race: Atomic AR
My first 24 hour adventure race is now on the map. I’ve selected the Atomic Adventure Race in Georgia this May 15-16.
With my first 12 hour adventure race, the Palmetto Swamp Fox, still to come next weekend, I’m pushing forward with my entry into the sport. I’ve read that your first 12 hour race will give you a good sense of whether adventure racing is for you. I’ve already made up my mind though and will use the 24 hour race to see if 36+ hours of torture is going to be next.
Thanks to the web, this blog specifically, I’ve found a partner (actually he found me). Shortly after posting an article on Adventure Competitions around Charleston, SC, Jason reached out to help teach me UTM plotting and land navigation.
It all started with a comment that he left on the blog. Days later we were in Francis Marion National Forest tracking down markers that he had planted earlier that day.
With a number of adventure races under his belt, Jason is going to be a great partner to learn the ropes from. We’re also both pretty laid back, have a drive to get out there, work hard and get dirty.
Based on the footage and descriptions of the Atomic AR, I’m thankful to have some experience on my team. …but first, my first 12 hour adventure race in the solo category.
