Scouting Folly and Kiawah for Adventure Race Course

Scouting Folly and Kiawah IslandI joined Brett Carlson on a scouting mission today, in search of his next adventure race course.  Brett is the creator and organizer of the Barrier Island ECOthon, a fantastic sprint distance adventure race in the Charleston area.

Today we launched kayaks from the west end of Folly Island and paddled the inlet to Kiawah Island for a run . . . with a few stops here and there to admire the wildlife, take in the sights and talk shop.

Within the first hour and half we saw horseshoe crab, shark, dolphin, stingray, sea turtle and more perfect sand dollars than I’ve ever seen.

The general route that we scoped will make for a phenomenal course.  I look forward to seeing it materialize. …and I’ve already called dibs on first registration!
